This Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, and the Publisher.

The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, internationally accepted principles of research integrity, and best practices in scholarly publishing to ensure fairness, transparency, accountability, and academic excellence throughout the editorial process.

Ethical Principles of Scholarly Publishing

The publication of peer-reviewed articles is an essential contribution to the advancement of legal scholarship and scientific knowledge. Every published manuscript reflects the originality, integrity, and academic quality of the research conducted by the authors and the institutions supporting their work.

Makukuhan-IJLS is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical standards, and relevance to the aims and scope of the journal. Editorial decisions shall remain independent of commercial interests, institutional influence, political considerations, or personal relationships.

The Publisher, Editors, Reviewers, and Authors share a collective responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record and promoting ethical research and publication practices.

Publisher's Responsibilities

The Master of Islamic Family Law, Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic Institute (INISNU) Temanggung, as the publisher of Makukuhan-IJLS, is committed to preserving editorial independence and supporting ethical scholarly communication.

The Publisher ensures that:

  • editorial decisions remain free from commercial, financial, institutional, or political influence;
  • editorial independence is respected throughout the publication process;
  • allegations of publication misconduct are handled fairly, transparently, and in accordance with COPE recommendations;
  • the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts is maintained;
  • advertising, sponsorship, or other sources of revenue do not influence editorial decisions.

Editors' Responsibilities

Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are responsible for deciding which manuscripts are accepted for publication based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological soundness, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

Editorial decisions are made following the recommendations of independent peer reviewers while considering applicable legal requirements relating to copyright, plagiarism, defamation, and research ethics.

Editorial Independence

Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic quality without discrimination based on race, nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, citizenship, political beliefs, or any other personal characteristics of the authors.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Information concerning a submitted manuscript shall not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the Publisher when appropriate.

Conflict of Interest

Editors shall not use unpublished materials contained in submitted manuscripts for their own research without the authors' explicit written consent.

Editors must withdraw from handling manuscripts whenever a financial, institutional, professional, or personal conflict of interest exists.

Reviewers' Responsibilities

Makukuhan-IJLS employs a double-blind peer-review process to ensure impartiality, objectivity, and academic integrity.

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer reviewers assist the editors in evaluating the originality, scientific quality, legal significance, methodological rigor, and scholarly contribution of submitted manuscripts. Their recommendations support editorial decisions and provide constructive feedback for authors.

Promptness

Reviewers who consider themselves unqualified to review a manuscript or who are unable to complete the review within the specified timeframe should promptly notify the editor and decline the review invitation.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for peer review must be treated as confidential documents. They shall not be shared, discussed, copied, or used for personal advantage without prior authorization from the editor.

Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively, fairly, and professionally. Reviewers should provide constructive comments supported by scholarly arguments and should refrain from personal criticism of the authors.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors and notify the editor of any substantial similarity, overlap, duplicate publication, or suspected plagiarism.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from collaborative, competitive, institutional, financial, or personal relationships with the authors or their affiliated institutions.

Authors' Responsibilities

Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate, objective, and transparent account of their research. Manuscripts should provide sufficient information to enable readers to understand, evaluate, and where appropriate, reproduce the research.

Data fabrication, data falsification, image manipulation, or any form of research misconduct constitutes unethical behaviour and is strictly prohibited.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are entirely original. All ideas, data, quotations, and previously published materials must be properly acknowledged and cited using the APA 7th Edition (author–date) citation style adopted by the journal.

All submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Submission

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal or publish substantially similar research in multiple publications without proper disclosure.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, or writing of the manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:

  • all eligible contributors are listed as authors;
  • no inappropriate individuals are included as authors;
  • all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript; and
  • all co-authors agree to its submission for publication.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers through accurate citations and references.

Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships that could influence the interpretation of the research findings.

All sources of financial support for the research must also be disclosed in the manuscript.

Data Availability

Where applicable, authors are encouraged to retain supporting research data and make them available in accordance with applicable legal, ethical, and institutional requirements.

Corrections and Retractions

Authors are obliged to promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work and cooperate in issuing corrections, retractions, or other appropriate editorial notices.

Research Integrity

Makukuhan-IJLS maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards academic misconduct. The journal strictly prohibits:

  • plagiarism;
  • data fabrication;
  • data falsification;
  • duplicate or redundant publication;
  • citation manipulation;
  • image manipulation;
  • unethical authorship practices;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest; and
  • any other form of research misconduct.

Allegations of misconduct will be investigated in accordance with the COPE Core Practices. Where misconduct is confirmed, the journal may reject the manuscript, issue corrections or retractions, notify the authors' institutions, and take other appropriate editorial actions.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

Where necessary, Makukuhan-IJLS will publish Corrections, Retractions, or Expressions of Concern to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Such actions shall follow COPE recommendations and be undertaken in a transparent and timely manner.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright to their published work while granting Makukuhan-IJLS the right to publish the manuscript. Articles are published under the journal's applicable open-access licensing policy, as specified on the journal website.

Publication Ethics Compliance

By submitting a manuscript to Makukuhan-IJLS, authors confirm that they have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement, as well as the journal's editorial policies and submission guidelines. Manuscripts that fail to comply with these ethical standards may be rejected at any stage of the editorial or publication process.
